Match- Austin FC hosts LA Galaxy
Pick- LA Galaxy DNB -138
This first matchup this weekend sees the LA Galaxy head into Austin, Texas. LA is currently the top of the west, while Austin is sitting at 3-3-3. Austin looks hot, winning 3 of their last 4 matches, but it is worth noting that 2 of those were rivalry matches, while the 3rd win was against San Jose, which barely qualifies as a soccer team right now.
The Galaxy have also been good on the road this season, with exactly 2 points per game on the road, which is the same as their home ppg. The LA Galaxy are obviously the better team; they are built for Greg Vanney and look like a 180 degree improvement on last season.
A particular area of interest for me is the Galaxy against poor Austin play against wingers. Galaxy, in Greg Vanney fashion, have two exceptional wingers in Pec and Paintsil, who I will also eye for goalscorer props later in the week. Until then, Galaxy draw no bet -138 is the pick.
Match- Columbus Crew hosts CF Montreal
Pick- CF Montreal DNB +333
This pick breaks my #1 rule of not betting against the Crew, especially when they are at home. However, the Crew have drawn 4 straight and will be focusing on Monterrey, not Montreal. They concluded a 2-1 win against Monterrey midweek, and will be looking ahead for their midweek Mexico trip.
Montreal have had themselves an up and down season, but they beat FC Cincinnati and drew Orlando City, which are quality opponents. Do I think they get the win? I think it’s possible, but with +333 odds on a draw no bet, I don’t think the odds have the possibility that Crew puts out a third-rate lineup into account.
Match- DC United host the Seattle Sounders
Pick- DC United +135
DC United welcomes the Seattle Sounders this weekend, in an inter conference matchup that sees Seattle cross the country to play in the nation’s capital. It is hard not to pick on the Seattle Sounders right now, as they are just 1-3-4 on the season, and haven’t shown any signs of getting right. They will be without Pedro de la Vega, their lone source of youth and creativity, as he picked up a new injury on the same leg that saw him miss the last few weeks.
DC United are a bit of a wild card themselves; they are 2-4-3 with just 10 points through 9 matches, but that record improves to 2-0-2 at home. The difference is, those home losses were to Orlando and Inter Miami, while Seattle Sounders have a single 5-0 win against the 10 man CF Montreal. Another difference is they made recent changes that will impact this team. With Benteke, the team is always a single corner away from being blown open, and we have seen 3 different players contribute with 2 or more assists.
This game isn’t as open/shut as I would like, but DC at home at +135 against a bottom Western Conference team seems like odds too good to pass up.
Match- Nashville SC host San Jose Earthquakes
Pick- Nashville SC +100
Nashville is a low-volume offense with what they want to be an elite defense. Unfortunately, with injuries to Shaq Moore and Walker Zimmerman that hasn’t been the case this year. They have only 1 clean sheet and conceded 16 times in only 8 matches.
This week, there’s light at the end of the tunnel with Shaq Moore and Walker Zimmerman looking to return! We need more details later this week but this Nashville defense could take a huge step forward this week.
San Jose is scoring less than a goal per game, and I think Nashville will get a clean sheet this weekend. Watch injury reports when they come out, but Nashville is going to have a good home match this week. Whether or not it changes their season trajectory is yet to be determined.
