MLS Matchday 5 Best Bets

Match- Austin FC hosts the Philadelphia Union

Picks- Austin +160, Over 2.5 Goals -125

My first pick this week is both Austin to beat Philadelphia, and to combine for over 2.5 goals.

While Austin hasn’t been playing up to their standards for quite some time, I think this is the week Austin bounces back and beats Philadelphia, who has seen a strange few weeks of play.  Philly had their game last weekend abandoned with flooding, then they took it to the road and got blown out 6-0 by Pachuca in a game that, quite honestly, they forgot to show up for.

Fresher legs and a home advantage is going to carry Austin to a win here at +160, and Austin will be celebrating their 2nd MLS win in their last 15 attempts.

As for the over, Austin has seen 7 goals in 3 matches, while Philadelphia has seen 6 goals in 3 matches.  That totals 15 goals over 6 games, or an even 2.5 goals per game.  As Philadelphia is still reeling from their Pachuca match, I think this one has enough juice to go over that line.

Match- LA Galaxy hosts St. Louis City

Picks- LA Galaxy -120, Over 2.5 Goals -188

This week the LA Galaxy host St. Louis City back in California, and I am taking the LA Galaxy to win and both teams to combine for over 2.5 goals.

The Galaxy are looking to solidify their place near the top of the Western Conference with strong offensive performances this season, and I think we saw a bit of that last weekend as they drew Nashville 2-2 away.  Nashville has the kind of defense that would test any offense, and while the Galaxy conceded twice, it was their offense who passed the test.

This week Galaxy should welcome back their young DP Gabriel Pec, who was away getting married last week.   I have been impressed especially by Joveljic, who is starting to prove he is an MLS caliber starting #9 in this league.

Galaxy should score twice again this week, and being they have a leaky defense (which could get better once Jalen Neal returns) I think they also concede.  Over 2.5 goals has been a lock so far, so we are running it back again this week.

Match- Atlanta United host Orlando City

Pick- Atlanta United -110

Many people thought Orlando would be a contender this season, but that has not proven to be the case.  With CONCACAF games getting in the way of their MLS performance thus far, they scored only 2 goals and conceded 8 on the young season.

Atlanta United is at home, and their offense looked much better last week when they scored 4 goals against New England.  While I think that would be a lofty goal to repeat, I do like their chances at home against ANYONE, especially Orlando this week.
