Match- FC Cincinnati hosts NYCFC
Pick- Cincy -106, Cincy Over 1.5 Team Goals +100
After winning the Supporter’s Shield last season, FC Cincinnati was a team many people expected to be in the running for winning the Eastern Conference this season. NYCFC is a team that I had picked for the wooden spoon. They match up during an international break and FC Cincinnati has nearly a full team, while NYCFC will be without 6 players, and Keaton Parks after last week’s red card.
This one is pretty self explanatory- a very good team against a very bad team, for just about even money. While I like the over outright, the over on 1.5 Cincinnati team goals at +100 is my best bet. We don’t know how the pigeons are going to find the back of the net this season, and we can’t rely on their goal to pick the 2.5 total over.
Match- Portland Timbers host Philadelphia Union
Pick- Timbers +125
The best Philadelphia could muster during their schedule-congested season start is 3 draws, starting 0-3-0. Here, they head across the country to Portland to face the Timbers who have trophy ambitions this season.
Portland recently unveiled the signing of Club America forward Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodriguez which will add to their attack led by winger Antony who was signed this offseason. Add some Evander magic and this offense has the ability to be a best-in-MLS quality group.
This is the two teams’ first meeting in two years, so we never know what can happen in MLS after dark. However, at +125 for a solid home favorite, we have to capitalize and add this to our Sportsbook for Matchday 6.
Match- Vancouver Whitecaps host Real Salt Lake
Pick- Vancouver -125
The Vancouver Whitecaps are at home this weekend after having a tremendous road trip; they beat FC Dallas and the San Jose Quakes. This week they return home to face off against a RSL squad which will be without Diego Luna and Andres Gomez, both with national team call-ups.
I think Real Salt Lake has a decent enough team, but are in poor form starting 1-1-2 on the young season. They fall easily to a superior Whitecaps squad here, and I will continue picking on them until they can turn things around.
St. Louis City hosts DC United
Pick- St. Louis -106
St. Louis City went 11-2-5 last season at home, and solidified one of the best home field advantages in Major League Soccer. I was especially impressed with their “rain game” last season where an hours-long delay results in a near-zero loss of fans. They return home after drawing LA Galaxy 3-3 in a match where, even without Eduard Lowen to injury, they didn’t take their foot off the gas.
I expect this to also be a high scoring game, with DC missing key defensive pieces to duty, as well as Pedro Santos to suspension. So does Vegas, as they gave the 2.5 goal over a -143 line. I am not buying in at that price, so I will leave St. Louis City -106 as my bet here.
